Ammo is nearly impossible to find right now for any popular caliber. The fear of more stringent gun laws have spurred a buying frenzy of ammo. This has brought our “just in time” inventory system to its knees as manufacturers can’t keep up with demand. The .22 Long Rifle is one of the most popular firearms on the market. Its versatile and fun to shoot. And the ammo is cheap… or was. If you are anything like me, you are on the hunt for .22LR ammo… I’m here to help. Here are some of the ways that I’ve gotten lucky and not paid an arm and a leg for .22LR Ammo recently.
1. GunBot.net: GunBot is a great web search tool. It basically scans popular websites constantly looking for your desired ammo (you can filter) to show up as in stock. It keeps a good track of what constitutes “good market price” so you make sure you are not overpaying. The best feature of GunBot is the beep alert. I keep the page open while at work. If I hear the beep, I jump into action to see what has popped up. You have to be quick though… as the masses have found out about this tool as well and ammo sells out in minutes. Keep accounts at the major retailers so you don’t have to enter shipping and billing info every time for best results.
2. Smith & Wesson Forum – OFFICIAL (IN STOCK) 22LR AMMO THREAD: I like this thread alot and have scored some good deals not seen by GunBot here. Its an active forum where members are constantly sharing up to date info on in stock 22LR Ammo. The thread occasionally takes an off topic turn… but members seem to keep it on track. Lots of great info here for sure. I like to keep it open and checking the last post to see if I get lucky with my timing.
3. Gun Shows: Dealers know all about the ammo shortage and will make sure to have some ammo in stock at your local gun show. It is good for their business as it drives in buyers who are likely to purchase other items. I recently attended the Philadelphia Gun Show at the Oaks Center and scored a brick of CCI’s. Best advice here. Wake up early. I got to the show 40 minutes before the doors opened and the line was already crazy long. Once inside, I made my way to the back corner to try and beat the crowds. After about an hour… it was so insane that you couldn’t get down the isles. Get there early and know what you are looking for. Ammo will be easy to find. Be aware of price gougers though.
Don’t overpay. Auction sites are a scam.
