Sun Times Bears agree in principle on a deal with tight end Martellus Bennett 17 Minutes into free agency, free-agent tight end Martellus Bennett announced that he’s going to be a Bear. On his Twitter account, Bennett wrote, “I’m proud to say I’ll be joining my other brother [Brandon Marshall] next season.” He capped it with, “Bear down.” A source said that he’s agreed in principle on a deal with the Bears.
Martellus Bennett is now a former member of the New York Giants after agreeing to a deal with the Chicago Bears. The tight end spent just one productive year in New York City, catching 55 passes for 626 yards and 5 touchdowns, but he will most be remembered in New York for his hilarious quotes in the media and the incident where he caught a fan who fell out of the stands post game.
The man who calls himself “The Black Unicorn” heads to Chicago, where he will become a major weapon for Jay Cutler in the passing game, and the best tight end the team has had since former offensive coordinator Mike Martz (who hates tight ends) forced the team to trade Greg Olsen.
Martellus, thanks for the memories and comedy in your stint with Big Blue, and good luck on Chicago unless you are playing the Giants.
NOTE: The Giants brought back former cornerback Aaron Ross following a one year hiatus from Big Blue which he spent with the Jacksonville Jaguars
