Gainesville Sun Timothy Johnson told a man to buy him drugs, then attacked him with a box cutter when the man didn’t buy enough, according to a report. Gainesville Police said Johnson, 47, who shares a common area in an apartment with the victim on the 900 block of SW Eighth Avenue, told the man around 4 a.m. Saturday to go buy him drugs. The victim reluctantly agreed, but when he returned, Johnson grabbed a box cutter and cut him on the left side of his throat, police said. The victim talked to Johnson for about a half hour before calming him down enough to toss the cutter away and leave. The man then went to a store several blocks away and called police. Johnson told police that he had been drinking heavily and had been sleeping on the couch in the common area, where he has lived for two days. As police were arresting Johnson, he threatened them and spit at one officer. Police eventually restrained him and he was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, and battery on a law enforcement officer. He was being held at the Alachua County jail on Sunday.
Clearly Timothy Johnson has never heard the phrase “beggars can’t be choosers.” He makes his friend go buy him drugs at 4am and then sliced his throat when he didn’t show up with enough drugs. Some friend Timothy Johnson is. On the other hand, there is a good chance Johnson’s friend ripped him off and pocketed either some of the money or some of the drugs, in which case he deserved to be stabbed. The friend was doing Timothy Johnson a favor, and an unspoken ethical code does state that Johnson should hook his friend up with a couple of bucks or a couple of hits for his time and effort. I need more information on how much of the drug was missing before I can make a final ruling in this case.
