#25 Kentucky lost to #7 Florida 69-52 tonight, however, they may have lost a lot more than just the game as center Nerlens Noel suffered what may turn out to be a serious knee injury in the second half.
Noel, the nations leading shot blocker, was chasing down a Florida player on a breakaway with eight minutes to go. He blocked the shot but landed awkwardly on his knee. It looked like he slammed the knee into the basket padding, then it buckeled, and he crumpled to the ground screaming in pain. Noel’s teammates helped him to the locker room and his status and the severity of his injury are uncertain.
Noel is one of the top freshman in the country, averaging 10.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.5 blocks a game for the defending national champions, and in my opinion he is likely the favorite to be drafted first overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.
Keep it here for updates.
UPDATE: No word on the severity of the injury yet, but here is the video, not for the faint of heart. Kid is in pain.
UPDATE: Just heard the news that Noel tore his ACL and is done for the season. Big hit for Kentucky. Big hit for the 2013 NBA Draft. Number one pick is up for grabs now.
