Its Super Bowl week. Get ready for a ridiculous number of posts about prop bets and gambling. Let’s start with the most common prop bet people make… Super Bowl MVP. While the odds on favorites are always the QB’s… Kaepernick (at 8/5) and Flacco (11/4) won’t produce big payouts. This post is about identifying a long shot from each team that I think could walk away with MVP honors.
San Francisco 49ers – LaMichael James (RB)
While I can’t stand his name (Just “Michael” would have been fine), he is a very solid RB. James has been featured more in the 9ers offense lately and is playing his way into a potential starting gig for the future. He is a speedy back and has the skills to break a long TD at any time. Baltimore has struggled against the run this year and I could see San Fran trying to establish that part of the game early… one freak injury to Gore and James is carrying the load. At 66/1, LaMichael James could pay out nicely.
Baltimore Ravens – Dennis Pitta (TE)
This one is harder for me to call because if Pitta has a huge day, it likely means that Flacco did too and the QB always gets the nod. But Pitta has had some absolutely huge games this year for the Ravens and believe it or not, defending the TE has been one of the only weak spots in San Francisco’s pass defense. I could see Pitta with one of those 8 catch, 145 yards, 2 TD games… and at 40/1 odds, could make betters who roll the dice quite happy.
Those are my favorite long shots for Super Bowl MVP from each team. Lots more to come this week. Keep it tuned here and on Twitter for all your Super Bowl Gambling needs!
