Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (-10) An excellent season of NCAA football comes to and end tonight when Alabama and Notre Dame clash for the national title. There are several reasons that I am picking The Crimson Tide to cover the spread in this game.
1) Alabama may have the best offensive line we’ve ever seen. Barrett Jones, Chance Warmack, D.J. Fluker, Anthony Stern and Cyrus Kouandjio will all be playing on Sundays in the near future and most of them will hear their names called early on draft day. The monsters up front will wear down a strong Notre Dame front seven and will open up holes for Alabama’s star running backs Eddie Lacey and T.J. Yeldon. I think Notre Dame will have some success stopping the Alabama rushing attack early, but eventually the offensive line and those two running backs will make their mark.
2) A.J. McCarron has done this before. In fact he was the MVP of the 2012 BCS title game, and he is will become one of four quarterbacks to start two national championship games I’m college football history. He is a smart, confident, heady player who will not feel the pressure of this game. Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson is a very talented player who is going to have a long and successful career for the Irish, however he is a redshirt freshman who is facing an incredibly tough defense, advantage Alabama.
3) Notre Dame’s defense is excellent, and loaded with talent, Alabama’s defense is better and more talented.
THE PICK: Alabama (-10) This is going to be a tight, physical game early and I expect it to be a low scoring game, and be a one score game at halftime. However, I expect Alabama’s running game to wear down the Irish defense, and think tailback T.J. Yeldon will find some running room in the second half. FINAL SCORE: Alabama 24 Notre Dame 10
