A Jet fan threatened Mark Sanchez on Twitter following the melt down on Monday Night in Tennessee. @BraveGrancru sent some disturbing tweets. The NFL got involved and the fan later apologized. REALLY not the right time to even be joking like this man!
Here is the story from the Daily News
A Jets fanatic who sent Mark Sanchez death threats on Twitter claims he didn’t mean it.
The tweeter, who gave his name as Bravee Grandcu — similar to his Twitter handle @BraveGrancu — directed a series of hostile tweets at Sanchez because he was furious about losing a $700 bet Monday when the Jets fell to Tennessee, he told the Daily News on Tuesday.
The struggling quarterback handed the game to the Titans with five turnovers, including three in the crucial fourth quarter.
“I don’t own a gun,” said Grandcu, 25. “I was never going to shoot or kill anyone.”
But the menacing missives the Gang Green fan fired at Sanchez via the popular social media site told a different story.
“KILL YO SELF TONIGHT! OR IMMA DO IT FOR YOU WEDNESDAY AT PRACTICE,” Grandcu typed Monday night.
“DON’T COME TO PRACTICE WEDNESDAY I PROMISE YOU BULLETS EVERYWHERE,” he added.
In another tweet, Grandcu posted a photo of himself wearing a green Jets hat with the chilling message, “TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT YOUR KILLER!!”
The scary rant, which came just three days after an unhinged shooter slaughtered 26 people at a Connecticut elementary school, put the NFL on high alert.
But Grandcu insists the vicious tweets were merely his creepy way of letting off steam.
“I was just p—ed off,” Grandcu told the Daily News. “I lost $700 on the game. That’s real money.”
A Gang Green supporter for 20 years, the New York City resident lumped himself in with legions of Jets fans frustrated by Sanchez’s lackluster play.
Coach Rex Ryan benched the 26-year-old quarterback Tuesday a day after a 14-10 loss that eliminated the team from the playoff hunt.
“I feel like Sanchez is doing all of these turnovers on purpose,” Grandcu said.
He excused his frightening behavior as harmless.
“I don’t know why everyone’s making such a big deal about the death threats,” he said. “I guess it’s just because he’s Mark Sanchez and he’s famous.”
Ryan announced Tuesday that second-year quarterback Greg McElroy will start Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, passing over fan favorite Tim Tebow.
The team’s scariest fan gave Ryan a thumbs-up Tuesday. “I’m happy with that,” Grandcu said.
