Last night was a very difficult night to be a Jets fan. I was cursing my grandfather… who passed on season tickets to my father when I was young and impressionable. The simple joy of spending Sundays tailgating with my old man and watching live NFL football caused me to become a die hard Jet fan instead of the Giants fan that I would have been.
I have watched the Kotite years. I have watched numerous 4-12 seasons. I have watched incompetence from the front office, the sidelines, and the field. But last night was tough… I had bought in that the Same Old Jets were done with Rex… until he proceeded to keep McElroy inactive, despite his obvious reluctance to go to Tebow when Sanchez struggled.
Now, Greg McElroy has been named the starting QB for next week when the Chargers visit the Jets. They have finally benched Mark Sanchez to start a game. This was a necessary move. The fans would have been relentless. Sanchez would have heard it all game. Plus, its time to see if the kid has anything worth building on or if it is time to fully move on. The Tebow experiment was a waste (Drew Stanton is laughing somewhere). So now we turn to Greg McElroy to lead the offense… it can’t be any worse than last night.
I have been on the record saying that I think McElroy’s ceiling is Chad Pennington. But old Noodle Arm himself would have won that game last night… so let’s see what we have going here.
