OCALA.com – Before his first appearance Wednesday morning before a judge, Richard P. Braccia was apologetic about his behavior early Tuesday when he reportedly fired multiple shots at three deputies because he had been drinking and was upset about a football game outcome. “I’m really sorry. I was not myself. It’s no excuse for my behavior,” Braccia told a Star-Banner reporter. “I messed up pretty bad,” said a somber Braccia, who was said sitting on an aluminum bench outside the room at the jail that is used for first appearances via video links to judges at the courthouse downtown. Minutes before the court appearance, Braccia, wearing a red top and brown pants, with his hands and legs shackled, also apologized to a correction officer about his behavior when he was booked into the jail. He then walked slowly into the video room. Braccia, 50, of Silver Springs Shores, asked Judge Jim McCune for a public defender, saying he is disabled and only has disability income. Braccia is charged with three counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, domestic battery and tampering with a victim. Based on the severity of those charges, and a criminal history involving two DUIs in the 1980s in New York and a shoplifting charge in the 1980s in Ocala, the judge denied bond for Braccia. While Braccia said he doesn’t remember much about the incident, he said he remembers this much: He was drinking for roughly four hours. He said he has been a New York Giants fan for roughly 30 years and was upset that the Washington Redskins had beaten his team during the Monday Night Football game. Braccia said he doesn’t remember hitting his wife, or talking with her or deputies. He said he panicked and the next thing he knew, he was shooting.
I feel you Richard P. Braccia, I feel you. Losing to the Redskins on Monday Night and making the rest of the Giants schedule essentially “must win” games was rough. Knowing that we are going to have to watch the Giants chase around Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III for the next decade is rougher.
You have to look on the bright side, Braccia, the Giants are still the defending Super Bowl champions and are still the current NFC East division leaders, even with that Monday Night loss in Washington. Sure the remaining schedule looks tough, but the New York Giants always play the best with their back against the wall, and if they get into the playoffs…we all know what can happen.
P.S. Stop drinking the water in Florida, I think its making people down there crazy, something clearly is. Humidity? Mosquitos?
