On Saturday Night the UFC brings us another action packed free card on Fuel TV, this time the bouts take place at CotaiArena in Macau, which will be first time that the UFC has ever held an event in China. If you look back at my track record I have been excellent at picking UFC cards in the past (maybe before the big GSP vs Condit fight next weekend I will compile my record and keep a running tally) but without further adieu here are my picks for UFC on FUEL TV: Franklin vs Le:
Preliminary Card: Tom DeBlass OVER Riki Fukuda, John Lineker OVER Yasuhiro Urushitani, Motonobu Tezuka OVER Alex Caceres
Takeya Mizugaki (15-7-2) vs. Jeff Hougland (10-5) – Bantamweight Bout: Hougland is coming off of his first loss since 2005 and looks to get back on the winning track when he takes on the dangerous and experienced Mizugaki. Although Houghland is tough, he has not rebounded well after losses in the past, and he will struggle with the excellent boxing of Mizugaki. THE PICK: MIZUGAKI By second round TKO.
Tiequan Zhang (15-3) vs. John Tuck (6-0) – Lightweight Bout: Tiquan Zhang’s record looks impressive, until you realize that he has lost three of this last four fights, including his last two in the UFC. John Tuck is a danegerous Jiu-Jitsu master from Guam, who you may remember from the last season of the Ultimate Fighter, when he lost to eventual finalist Al Iaquinta. Tuck’s Jiu-Jitsu will be too much for Zhang. THE PICK: TUCK by second round submission.
Takanori Gomi (33-8-1) vs. Mac Danzig (20-9-1) – Lightweight Bout: This is an interesting match that pits two veterans of the octagon against each other in what should be an exciting matchup. In this fight, I am giving the slightest edge to Gomi, he is a well rounder fighter whose three most recent losses have come against three of the biggest names in the UFC (Nate Diaz, Clay Guida, Kenny Florian). I think that Gomi gets on the right track against the vegan Danzig in this fight. THE PICK: Gomi by first round TKO.
Thiago Silva (14-3-1) vs. Stanislav Nedkov (12-0) – Welterweight Bout: This is my pick for the Fight of the Night. Thiago Silva is an absolute pit bull who is itching to fight his way back to the top following a failed drug test before a scheduled matchup against former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 125. Nedkov proved just how dangerous he is when he TKOed Luiz Cain at UFC 134, and knows he can make a name for himself with a win over a veteran like Silva. This will be a war. THE PICK: Silva by decision.
Rich Franklin (29-6-1) vs. Cung Le (8-2) – Middleweight Bout: Two well known and well respected veterans of the octogan go head to head in the main event of the evening. The former UFC Middleweight Champion Franklin, who has beaten some of the best in the business goes for his 30th UFC win against the dangerous kickboxer Le. If Le can use his striking background to his advantage, he could knock Franklin out in the first round, however I give the overall advantage to the experience of Rich Franklin. THE PICK: Franklin by second round TKO.
