ESPN Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown has been fired after a disappointing 1-4 start to the season, a source has told ESPNLosAngeles.com’s Ramona Shelburne. Assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff will coach the Lakers Friday night at home against the Warriors, a source tells ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard.
NBA fans on the East Coast are loving the (1-4) Lakers start, and it became obvious Mike Brown had to go, his “Princeton Offense” was an absolutely terrible fit with the Lakers roster.
Who will the Lakers hire to coach their talented squad next? You know it will be a big name coach, rumors have already circulated that getting Phil Jackson to come out of retirement is at the top of the list, while other options include former Utah Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan or former Knicks and Suns head coach Mike D’Antoni.
I’d like to throw Stan Van Gundy’s name out there too, because I miss the seeing the sweaty Ron Jeremy-Look-A-Like court side. Just imagine Stan-Van walking down Hollywood Boulevard in L.A. and porn star Shyla Styles walks by confused, thinking he’s Ron Jeremy, they talk and she blows him. There would be a legitimate chance that could happen.
As a Knicks fan, the most interesting fit to me would be Mike D’Antoni, who we all know loves current Lakers point guard Steve Nash from their time together with the Phoenix Suns. I would love to see D’Antoni approach Kobe Bryant in the locker room and say:
“Kobe, Mike D’Antoni, new head coach. Nice to meet you. So this is Steve Nash’s team now. The offense runs through him…so sit on the wing, and maybe Steve will kick the ball out to you for an open look. Okay? Thanks.”
D’Antoni would get this look back:
