ESPN Yankee manager Joe Girardi has decided to bench the struggling Alex Rodriguez for the decisive Game 5 of the ALDS. Rodriguez will be replaced in the lineup by Eric Chavez. In the previous two games, Girardi has pinch-hit for Rodriguez with left-handers relievers late in the game. Rodriguez is 2-for-16 with nine strikeouts. All nine of his strikeouts have been against right-handed pitchers. The Orioles are starting Jason Hammel. In his career, Rodriguez is 8-for-24 (.333) with four homers against the Hammel. He was 0-for-2 in Game 1 against Hammel.
A-Rod is in a huge slump, but this has to be a giant blow to the ego of the $275 million dollar man, he is 8-24 with 4 homers career against Hammel.
How much do you think Magic Johnson, the Dodgers new part owner, actually knows about baseball? Can Brian Cashman call him and say:
“Magic, I like you, so I’m willing to trade you Alex Rodriguez and the five productive years remaining on his deal for next to nothing! The contract? That’s not important…He is a big name and he’s Latin, you are targeting big name Latinos to sell merchandise to the Latino fanbase in L.A. so let’s make a deal!”
Can the Yankees trick Magic Johnson just like the Red Sox did? He must be gullible. Make it happen Cashman!
