Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber was judging a sports radio contest at Jersey Shore beach bar Bar Anticipation, which is commonly known to locals as “Bar A” today.
When Barber was introduced, the crowd of guidos, juiceheads and members of MTV’s The Jersey Shore cast erupted in a chorus of boos, which continued whenever he spoke or was merely mentioned.
This is because Barber retired at the peak of his career in February of 2007 and trashed Giants Quarterback Eli Manning’s leadership style and head coach Tom Coughlin in the media on the way out. The Giants won the Super Bowl the following year, beating the undefeated New England Patriots in one of the biggest upsets in NFL history. Since Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin have lead the Giants to a second Super Bowl.
Or maybe it’s the fact that Barber left his wife who was pregnant with twins for a 23 year old NBC intern that Tiki met during his short stint on The Today Show.
Since Tiki Barber’s retirement and critical comments regarding Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin (not to mention his long running feud with beloved former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan) and their subsequent Super Bowl victories, Giants fans have booed Barber relentlessly, including when he was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2010.
Tiki Barber. Booed at Bar A. I guess that’s what happens when you turn your back on the only team you’ve ever played for, then leave you’re pregnant wife for a 23 year old. Karma’s a bitch.
