Ouch. Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Da’Rick Rodgers, a preseason selection for the All-SEC First Team, had been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
This is a major blow for the Vols, who were expected to have the best passing offense in the SEC in 2012, lead by quarterback Tyler Bray and fellow standout wide receiver Justin Hunter. Both players were listed in sportsmasher.com’s NCAA Football Preview Top Wide Receivers:
The 6’3 206lbs Rodgers caught 67 passes for 1040 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2011. The junior was a potential first round pick in the eyes of NFL scouts before this incident.
Rodgers already had several red flags, including being labled a “prima-donna” and participating in arguments with the Tennessee coaching staff, but there is no doubt he is a talented player who will be missed by the team.
