ESPN.com Oakland Athletics right-hander Bartolo Colon has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for testosterone, the commissioner’s office announced Wednesday.
Nobody can be surprised by this one! When the 39 year old Colon made a comeback with the New York Yankees in 2011 and pitched well after being out of baseball for a year (and not pitching a starter’s innings load since 2005) everyone assumed he was on the juice.
Everyone was right, he was, and now he is suspended for 50 games. Colon was 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA for the surprisingly A’s and now his season (and career) may be over.
The most interesting thing about Colon’s suspension is the fact that another recent former Yankee, outfielder Melky Cabrera of the San Francisco Giants was also banned for 50 games after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone last week.
Two recent ex-Yankees in two weeks? Coincidence? Probably, but if Tyler Clippard, Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui get busted next, Major League Baseball may go on a full scale raid if the Bronx Bombers clubhouse.
The way he is hitting this month, please stay away from Nick Swisher’s locker, he’s just in a contract year! I swear!
