LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who is known to sports fans as “Honey Badger” has been kicked off the football team for violating school and team rules.
The junior won the Chuck Bendarik Award last season, which is awarded to the nation’s top defensive player and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
During the 2011 season, Mathieu had 71 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also returned 26 pints for 420 yards and two touchdowns. (420 yards? Was that on purpose?) He was also suspended one game in the middle of the season for violating LSU’s drug policy.
Mathieu is currently looking for a school to transfer to so he can play this season, LSU head coach Les Miles would not comment further on why Mathieu was kicked off the team.
Wow, I an speechless right now, I am not sure what Honey Badger did but it must have been horrible to kick a Bendarik Award winner and Heisman Trophy finalist off of the football team.
UPDATE: Rumor is his dismissal involved multiple failed drug tests.
My prediction that the Georgia Bulldogs win the BCS Title looks a little less ridiculous now:
Keep it here for updates.
