Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin has requested a trade from the team due to several issues with the front office.
This is amazing to me, how does a player who is productive when he is on the field (87 receptions for 967 yards and 6 touchdowns, while adding 3 other touchdowns on rushing and special teams in 2011) and is by far the best receiver the organization has demand a trade and expect that request to be granted? Harvin will start the season as really the only playmaker the Vikings have, superstar running back, Adrian Peterson is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL and could miss the start of the 2012 season. They cannot afford to trade Harvin.
Harvin also has a long and well documented history of migraine headaches, and while I’m sure the acquisition of this dynamic playmaker would be a risk worth taking for many teams, I’m not sure he has a ton of value giving his injury concerns.
The Vikings will be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season and I understand that Harvin wants out of town, they are in arguably the toughest division in the league, and are clearly the least talented team in that division. I have thought quarterback Christian Ponder would be a career backup since the Vikings reached for him in the 2011 NFL Draft and I would not surprised to see them targeting another quarterback within the first few picks of the 2013 draft.
This trade request is ridiculous though, and I see no way that the Vikings will honor it. This is like me walking into my bosses office right now and saying “I’m tired of this shitty job and this one horse town called New York City, please trade me to the Minnesota Vikings department of college scouting, clearly they need help.”
My boss would either fire me or tell me to shut up and get back to work, and the Vikings will tell Harvin to shut up and get back to work.
