This just in: Barring a sudden snag in contract negotiations, Peyton Manning will become the next quarterback of the Denver Broncos ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter confirm.
This is huge news, as Denver was lead to the playoffs by the unorthodox Tim Tebow, who will now be placed on the trading block. Expect the Jaguars and Dolphins to be among the interested teams.
Denver is an interesting fit for Manning, as they have a great running game and offensive line with some talented wide receivers including Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker (whose fantasy stocks just skyrocketed). They also have a great defense lead by reigning defensive rookie of the year Von Miller, and are strong at head coach with experienced John Fox and in the front office with John Elway, the executive vice president of football operations.
I have always felt like John Fox was an excellent head coach who just never had an actual quarterback. He was stuck with turnover machine Jake Delhomme for years in Carolina. He was forced into the Tim Tebow experiment in Denver last season, who was drafted by the previous regime. He’s finally got not just a component quarterback but an All-Time Great.
